Evening Portal
This Kentucky agate feels like a tiny landscape viewed through an opening. Its unusually broad, flat surface creates an almost pictorial plane, where bands of slate gray, lavender, rust, ochre and glowing orange roll across the stone like distant ridgelines beneath an evening sky.
A round pool of golden color suggests a low sun, while the cooler gray above it gives the warmer tones an unexpected luminosity. Turn the ring in another direction and the landscape changes—the horizon becomes vertical, the “sun” shifts position, and an entirely different composition emerges.
The sterling silver setting is intentionally restrained, allowing the remarkable natural drawing within the Kentucky agate to command the view. Small loops of silver peek from either end, while the open double-wire band gives this substantial stone a lightness on the hand.
Evening Portal is handcrafted by Rachel Savané at her workbench inside the gallery in downtown Lexington, Kentucky—a singular Kentucky agate whose landscape was created by nature and will never be drawn quite this way again.
