Bourbon Ledger
A glowing rectangular Kentucky agate takes center stage in Bourbon Ledger, its warm amber and butterscotch tones crossed by subtle horizontal markings that seem almost written into the stone.
The clean geometry of the gemstone is answered by playful movement in the sterling silver. On one side, a generous spiral curls out from beneath the setting; on the other, a loose squiggled line travels from one end of the ring to the other. These hand-formed elements bring an improvisational quality to the piece—my own silver handwriting surrounding the more orderly form of the stone.
Handcrafted by me, Rachel Savané, at my workbench within the gallery, Bourbon Ledger is a singular composition: this particular Kentucky agate and this particular wandering arrangement of silver came together once.
