Clear Water Run

Clear Water Run takes its name from the remarkable translucent band that winds through this Kentucky agate like a clear stream moving through a richly colored landscape. On either side, natural layers of soft salmon, coral pink, warm rose, and butterscotch yellow follow one another in graceful, undulating lines.
The stone’s unusual shape heightens that sense of movement. Its bands seem to flow from one end to the other, while the clear, deeper passage through the center draws the eye into the stone rather than simply across its surface.
I created the wide sterling silver band by working the metal under the flame to the very verge of melting, giving the silver its organic, sculptural character. I then rolled the formed silver through my rolling mill, creating a substantial band that feels smooth and comfortable on the finger.
The sculpted silver and naturally meandering agate complement one another beautifully: one shaped by hand and flame, the other shaped by the slow work of the earth.
