Moonless
A striking Kentucky agate, nearly black at first glance, gives Moonless its quiet drama. Its unusual, loosely boomerang-like silhouette brings an unexpected geometry to the ring, while the stone’s remarkable depth of color reveals subtle shifts of deep charcoal and brown as the light moves across its polished surface. Tucked into one corner, a natural pocket of crystalline druzy breaks through the darkness—a small flash of sparkle left behind as the agate formed.
The stone is set in bright sterling silver, creating a crisp contrast between the dark, mysterious agate and the reflective metal. The substantial band begins as thick sterling silver wire, which I form by hand and then roll flat through my rolling mill, giving it a broad, sculptural presence while remaining comfortable on the finger.
Like the Kentucky agate itself, the design came together in a moment that cannot be precisely repeated. Moonless was handcrafted by me, Rachel Savané, at my workbench inside the Savané Silver gallery, where visitors can see the place—and often the process—in which my jewelry is made.
