Salmon Currents
Kentucky agate set in sterling silver. One of a kind. Designed and handcrafted by Rachel Savané at Savané Silver, her working studio and gallery in downtown Lexington, Kentucky.
Salmon Currents takes its name from the warm salmon coloring that flows through this Kentucky agate. Subtle bands of rose, mauve, and soft cream drift across the polished surface, creating gentle currents of color and depth within the stone.
I built the band from individual strips of sterling silver, arranging and fusing them together into an open, irregular lattice. The construction gives the ring a sculptural quality beneath the stone, with glimpses of skin and light appearing through the openings in the silver.
The band is intentionally asymmetrical, widening on one side and narrowing on the other. When worn with the wider side toward the pinky, its shape follows the natural contours and spacing between the fingers, allowing a substantial ring to settle comfortably on the hand.
The softness of the salmon agate against the more architectural silverwork is what gives Salmon Currents its character—a balance of fluid color, open space, and hand-built structure.
